ZohoOne: An “All-You-Can-Eat” Application Suite at A Price That Any Business Can Swallow

That’s the rationale behind the launch of Zoho One, which Zoho describes as “an all-in-one suite of applications that can run an entire business, across every function and organizational group.” Zoho One includes more than 35 integrated web applications and an equal number of mobile apps for both iOS and Android, all under a single sign-on, with centralized administration and provisioning which makes it what Zoho considers to be “the first true operating system for a business.”

Zoho One offers hundreds of integration points across its applications. Beyond the interdepartmental connections, it also fosters communication and collaboration between colleagues, customers, and vendors. Contextual integrations bring in relevant information from other apps to improve the effectiveness of any app. The idea is to provide the best information for quick and superior decisions. Zoho One applications also integrate with hundreds of leading third-party software applications which enable customer choice and provide needed flexibility. 

Zoho is a 21-year old company primarily known as a cloud-based CRM specialist offers a suite of productivity tools and SaaS (software as a service) applications. Based in Chennai, India with headquarters in Pleasanton, CA, Zoho is proud of being a bootstrap organization that has never had to accept funds from venture capitalists. They have 5000 employees and conduct business in 150 nations with 20 million users.    

Zoho One was in development for more than four years as the company painstakingly built the underlying applications. According to Zoho Chief Evangelist Raju Vegesna, it represents the culmination of a long-held dream for the company. “We believe that Zoho One is a disruptor that goes in the opposite direction of traditional enterprise software,” he said. “Instead of the bloated business model of offering individual, overpriced applications, companies can have one integrated suite that provides the capability to fully control a wide spectrum of business functions.” Vegesna believes this offers both an unprecedented opportunity and an exceptional value, pointing out that businesses can now enjoy all these benefits for just $30 per employee per month (the suite must be purchased for all employees who use it).   

“It’s an all-you-can-eat application suite at an amazing price,” he said.  Beyond the obvious buffet analogy, Vegesna also compared deploying Zoho One to purchasing an all-inclusive cable package. While he realizes that just as no diner tries every dish and no viewer watches every channel, no business will use every app. But he believes the versatility of the suite and the low price makes it a worthwhile investment for businesses of every size. “While sales personnel will tend to use sales apps, the entire system is owned by everyone and those who need to integrate inter-departmental information will not have to deal with the baggage of trying to knit everything together.”

Convenience and simplicity play a key role in Zoho One’s business value as well. Vegesna noted that there is one secure account for all of a company’s applications and complete administrative control. “Users will have one set of credentials for the entire suite, rather than an extensive list of passwords for the different apps they need,” he said. In addition, it will be far easier to manage. “There will be one account, one price, one invoice, one support team and a single account manager for the whole suite.” Companies will no longer need to do multiple contract renewals; there will be no nickel-and-diming price increases. The price is set in stone for the foreseeable future. “With Zoho One, businesses will no longer just be licensing software, they’ll be licensing peace of mind. By eliminating the complexity of running multiple applications, customers can focus on their core business” said Vegesna. “In addition, they will have the benefit of being able to expand the suite as additional apps are added to it with no increase in price.”

Speaking of expanding, that is also what Zoho believes that the biggest new release in their history will do for the size of their market.  “We see the ultimate potential for a billion users,” said Vegesna.

Zoho One went through an extensive 3-month experiment when it was implemented by 300 companies, about 20% of which were SMBs. “We wanted to make sure we got it right,” said Vegesna. Training will be conducted through Zoho’s worldwide network of 1000+ partners, with local suppliers doing local training. Partners can also can help businesses to customize the   applications to meet their specific needs across a broad set of industries.
